Used Tesla FSD is a package on a VIN, not a story on a listing.

Shoppers mix up three different things: the Full Self-Driving Computer (HW3 or HW4), the purchased Full Self-Driving Capability software, and a month-to-month subscription. Only the purchased package is worth an FSD premium on a used car.

The transfer program is dead

Tesla’s new-car FSD transfer program ended March 31, 2026. This site is not that program. If someone is selling a used Model Y and waving “transfer FSD from my other car,” that is either outdated or a different product. On used inventory, you buy the car that already has the license — or you buy a car you will subscribe on later.

What actually transfers

A one-time FSD purchase is generally treated as a vehicle feature. A subscription is billed to an account and dies when that billing stops. Confirm on the car: Controls → Software. You want Full Self-Driving Capability — Included Package. An end date is a rental.

VIN does not prove FSD

Tesla VINs can hint at model year. They do not encode whether anyone paid for FSD. FSD Check will never invent a purchase from a VIN. If a dealer says “the VIN shows FSD,” they are guessing or selling.

Pair it with the computer

Hardware decides which FSD build can run. HW4: full FSD v14.3 (Supervised). HW3: FSD v14 Lite. HW3 cannot do Unsupervised. Identify the computer with HW Check, then come back here for the software wording.
