How to check FSD before you buy.
Do this in the car, or on a live video of the current software screen. A photo from 2023 is not a 2026 receipt.
- Controls → Software. This is the only screen that matters for the package.
- Full Self-Driving Capability — Included Package. That phrase means the license was purchased and is attached to the vehicle. That is the used-car win.
- Full Self-Driving Computer. Hardware only. The board is present. The software may still be for sale or on a subscription.
- Subscription / end date. Temporary. When the seller stops paying, FSD leaves with them. Do not pay a package premium.
- Buy / Subscribe prompts. The car does not currently include the package.
Second screen: the computer
Tesla “T” at the top of the display → Additional Vehicle Information → Autopilot computer. You want to know HW3 vs HW4 because that decides v14 Lite vs v14.3 Supervised. If the listing is vague, run HW Check on year and model first, then confirm in the car.
After you take the car
When the Tesla account transfer completes, check Upgrades in the app. If FSD shows as available to buy, the “included” story did not survive the handoff. Fix it with Tesla immediately — not a week later.
Use the FSD checker for the stack, then this page as the in-car script.
